A Few for the Ladies: Celebrating Women Veterans this Veterans Day

This Year’s Veterans Day celebrations include many that honor the women who have served in the Armed Forces. Here is a sampling of just a few of these ceremonies.

Women’s Memorial Veterans Day Observance, Arlington, Maryland
This is the 17th year of this ceremony here at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, which honors the nearly two million women veterans in the United Sates. The observance is on Nov 11 at 3pm and will honor the valiant women of the military services with remarks and special reflections from a keynote speaker along with formal military honors and the laying of wreaths.

3rd annual Women Veterans and Women in the Military Veterans Day Extravaganza, Maryland
The Premier Event for Service women at the National Harbor in Maryland will be held Nov 9-11. There are women’s conferences, a Red Carpet Masquerade Ball and a Veterans Day Tribute to Women Veterans with Keynote speaker Angela Robinson from Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and The Have Nots.” Also featured will be conference speakers: comedian and actress Kim Coles and Tona L. Moore, a veteran (National Guard) and author and event production and corporate relations manager (BET) unit of Viacom.

Veterans Day Parade, Hilo, Hawaii
In Hilo the 7th annual Veterans Day Parade will be held Saturday, November 8th at 9:00am. This year’s parade is paying special tribute to female veterans and active duty military women in all branches of service. The Grand Marshall will be Colonel Debra M. Lewis who has commanded three separate U.S Army Corps of Engineers units and was a member of the first class of female cadets to graduate from West Point.

Women’s Veteran’s Appreciation Day, Boston, Massachusetts
Held at Memorial Hall in Boston on November 6th from 11am-1pm this is the 10th Annual Women Veteran Appreciation Day hosted by the MA Women Veteran’s Network of the MA Department of Veteran’s Services. They will be honoring the women who have served, past and present and will be presenting the 2014 Outstanding Women Veteran of the Year with the Deborah Sampson Award. All Veterans and families are welcome.

The 9th Annual Tribute to Women Veterans, Branson, Missouri
Being held on Nov 9th this year the tribute will include a rose pedal ceremony and a Women Veterans Appreciation gathering. Both are open to women veterans or those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.

Altoona Veterans Day Parade, Altoona, Pennsylvania
The Altoona Veterans Day Parade, which starts at 10am on November 11th, is shining a light on female vets this year. The parade will honor those women who have served in our Armed Forces and an Altoona bridge will be renamed in honor of all local veterans.
