How to Make Your Own Laundry Detergent

Part of achieving calm in the home is by relieving the environment of stress from everyday chemical emissions that are hazardous to our health. By going back to the basics and using all natural cleaners with simple ingredients, it’s a positive baby step with a huge impact. When we take the extra time to make it ourselves, and it is possible, the benefits are even more plentiful, because you know exactly what goes into it and in the long run, can save money.

We all know how often laundry needs to get done and how expensive that store-bought detergent is. But, did you know how easy it is to make your own? With just three simple ingredients, save money and get rid of the gross chemicals in your home—it’s a win-win!

With Washing Soda, Borax, and an organic bar soap, such as Dr. Bronner’s or Ivory, you can mix together a powder or liquid laundry detergent that eliminates yucky sulfates, fragrances, phenols and more. These are found in expensive store bought brands, which are linked to cancer and lung disease.

So how are these three ingredients better than the rest? Simplicity is key here—borax is a natural mineral made up of sodium, boron, oxygen and water. Washing Soda is made from salt and limestone and organic bar soap made with vegetable castile is all you need to rid your clothes of dirt while keeping skin from getting exposed to harsh chemicals.
